YouTube Shorts Downloader

Download YouTube Shorts as MP4 in your browser. Paste a public Shorts link, check the available quality, and save the vertical video. Free, no sign-up.

Only download videos you own or have permission to save.

This YouTube Shorts downloader saves a single public Short as an MP4 in your browser, with no app to install and no login on this site. Copy the Short’s link, paste it above, press Download, and pick a file from the list. The result keeps the Short’s vertical frame, so it plays upright on a phone and imports into editors that handle portrait video. Use it for Shorts you made or have permission to keep.

iPhone. In the YouTube app, the Share arrow sits in the column of buttons on the right side of the Short. Tap it, choose Copy link, then open this page in Safari and paste. After the result card appears, tap Save MP4 and keep the tab in front until Safari shows the download. The file goes to Files, under Downloads, unless you changed Safari’s download location. Moving it into Photos is a separate step: open the MP4 in Files, tap Share, and use Save Video if iOS offers it for that file.

Android. The flow is the same: Share, Copy link, paste here, Download, Save MP4. Chrome and most other Android browsers keep finished files in their Downloads list, which you can also reach from the device’s file manager. Whether a gallery app picks the file up on its own depends on the phone. If a large file stalls on mobile data, choose a smaller entry under More formats.

Desktop. When you watch Shorts in a desktop browser, the address bar changes as you scroll through the Shorts feed. Pause on the Short you want, then copy the address. Copying it a moment later can grab the next clip instead.

A Short has its own address in the form youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID. Links copied with the app’s Share button often end in an ?si= parameter; that is sharing information, and you can leave it in place. Some share sheets produce a youtu.be/VIDEO_ID address instead, which is accepted as long as the ID is complete. What matters is the ID after /shorts/ or after the slash in youtu.be. If a chat app cut off part of the link, copy it again from the Short itself.

The Shorts tab on a channel, a creator’s profile, the Shorts shelf on the home page, and a hashtag page all list many clips. None of them tells the tool which Short you mean. The same applies to a sound page that collects every Short using one song. Open the individual Short and copy its link. If you reached it by swiping through the Shorts feed, check that the thumbnail on the result card matches the clip you meant before saving.

Editing a /shorts/ link into a watch?v= link by hand is not necessary. Both point to the same video ID, and the tool reads the /shorts/ form directly.

Most Shorts are filmed in 9:16 portrait. The MP4 keeps whatever frame the creator uploaded: a vertical Short stays vertical, and a square one stays square. Black bars around a Short on a computer screen come from the player, not from the file. If you plan to place the clip in a horizontal project, the reframing is a job for your editor; the download does not crop, pad, or rotate the video.

The main button picks the best available format up to 1080p. A vertical 1080p file is 1080 pixels wide and taller than it is wide, so it can look sharper on a phone than the label suggests. Many Shorts are recorded on phones and processed by YouTube, which means the list may stop at 720p or lower. More formats shows any other renditions the source returns for that Short, including smaller ones for quick sharing between your own devices. The tool does not upscale a Short beyond what was uploaded.

Sound in a Short can come from the creator’s microphone, the YouTube audio library, licensed music, or a clip borrowed through Remix. The service delivers the picture and sound the source returns, and on some higher qualities it combines separate picture and sound streams into one MP4 before the download starts. It cannot restore a song that was muted, removed, or never made available outside YouTube. If your MP4 is silent, play the Short in a signed-out browser window first. A silent result there means the source is the issue, not the download.

Because Shorts are short, they are well inside the one-hour limit and usually far below the 2 GB per-file cap. Size estimates can still be missing when the source does not report one.

A Short that is public on YouTube is viewable, not free to reuse. That matters even more for Shorts than for long videos, because a 30-second clip often layers several people’s work: the creator’s footage, a licensed song, and a segment pulled from someone else’s video through Remix. Saving the MP4 does not carry over any of those permissions. Reposting a downloaded Short on another platform without the creator’s consent, or stripping the credit, is the kind of use these rights are meant to stop.

Use this downloader for your own Shorts, for clips the creator has cleared you to keep, or for uses the law allows where you are. The site’s Terms limit use to personal, noncommercial purposes. If you made the Short, the original file on your phone is usually a better master copy than any platform rendition. If you only want to show someone a Short, sending the link keeps the creator’s name, sound credit, and comments attached.

Private, members-only, age-restricted, paid, and DRM-protected Shorts are out of scope, as are live streams while they are live. The site does not ask for your YouTube password, import your cookies, or act as your account. An unlisted Short may open from its link, but treat that link as shared with a limited audience. Downloading a whole channel’s Shorts, a playlist, or every clip under a sound is not supported; the tool handles one Short per request. Subtitles and the Short’s caption text are not exported. Text the creator placed on screen is part of the picture and stays in the MP4.

The link is rejected. Check that it contains /shorts/ followed by a complete ID, or a full youtu.be address. A link to a channel’s Shorts tab, a hashtag, or a sound page will not work. Open the single Short and use Share, then Copy link again.

The wrong Short appears. This usually happens when the link was copied while the feed was moving to the next clip. Go back, let the Short you want start playing, and copy again.

The link is recognized but nothing loads. The Short may have been deleted, made private, age-restricted, or blocked in a region. If it only plays while you are signed in, the anonymous resolver cannot reach it. Pressing Download repeatedly will not change that and may trigger a rate limit; wait for the time shown before trying again.

The download stopped or the link expired. Download links are temporary. Paste the original Short URL again to get a fresh one, and keep the tab open while the file is prepared.

The video plays without sound. Confirm the file finished downloading before opening it, then compare with the Short in a signed-out browser. A track that YouTube does not deliver outside its own player cannot be added back by choosing a different format.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download YouTube Shorts on iPhone or Android?
In the YouTube app, open the Short, tap Share, then Copy link. Paste it here, press Download, and choose Save MP4. On iPhone the file usually lands in Files > Downloads; on Android, check the browser's Downloads list.
Will the MP4 stay vertical?
Yes. The file keeps the frame the creator uploaded, so a 9:16 Short stays vertical. The tool does not crop, pad, or rotate the video.
Why is my saved Short silent or missing its song?
Some Shorts use licensed music that may be unavailable outside YouTube. The service delivers the picture and sound the source returns; it cannot add back a track the source does not supply.
Can I save a Short from a private or age-restricted channel?
No. The tool does not sign in to YouTube or use your cookies, so it only works with Shorts the public can open without an account.
Can I download every Short from a channel at once?
No. Each request handles one Short. Open the Short you want and copy its own link rather than the channel's Shorts tab.
Can I turn a Short into an MP3?
Yes. Paste the Short's link on the YouTube to MP3 page, or open More formats here, and choose Save MP3. The sound is saved as a 192 kbps MP3.
