To convert YouTube to MP3, open the video whose sound you want, copy its address from the browser bar or from Share › Copy link, and paste it into the box above. Press Download. When the video has been checked you’ll see its title, length and a Save MP3 · 192 kbps button with the expected file size. Press it and the MP3 is prepared and saved by your browser. This YouTube to MP3 converter works on the web, so there is nothing to install and no account is needed for your first download of the day.
The same box accepts the normal youtube.com/watch?v= address, the short youtu.be/ form, Shorts links with /shorts/ and mobile m.youtube.com links. A link copied from the YouTube app usually carries extra tracking parameters; they are harmless and the detector ignores them. If you paste a channel page, a search result or a playlist address on its own, there is no single video to convert, so open the video itself first and copy that link instead.
If you want the picture as well, the MP4 qualities are listed under More formats in the same result, so you don’t need to paste the link twice. The YouTube to MP4 page works the same way but leads with the video.
The file is an MP3 at a constant 192 kbps with the video’s main soundtrack. YouTube stores the sound of most videos as AAC, typically around 128 kbps, and sometimes as Opus. We take the best audio stream YouTube offers for that video and encode it once to MP3. MP3 is chosen because every phone, car stereo, music app and editing program plays it without extra software.
Re-encoding never adds detail. An MP3 made from a 128 kbps stream will sound like the stream, not like a studio master, and a bigger number on a converter does not change that. That is why this page offers one well-chosen bitrate rather than a list of 128, 256 and 320 kbps options that would mostly change the file size. As a rough guide, the MP3 uses about 1.4 MB per minute, so a four-minute song is close to 6 MB.
The MP3 keeps the full length of the video. It does not cut out intros, ads in the creator’s own audio, or talking before a song starts. If you only need part of the sound, trim the file afterwards in any audio editor. Chapters, subtitles, the description and the thumbnail are not written into the MP3.
An MP3 counts as one download, exactly like a video. Without an account you can save 3 files (1 a day), a free account adds 5 plus 1 free every day, and a download pack that never expires gives you more. Picking the same video and format again within 15 minutes is treated as the same download, and a download that fails before any data reaches you is given back. Signed-in downloads appear in your account’s history for 30 days, marked as MP3.
Videos longer than one hour are outside the current limit, for MP3 as well as MP4. The plan’s file-size limit is checked against what our server has to fetch to make the MP3, so very long uploads may be refused even though the MP3 itself would be small. YouTube downloads also draw on a daily YouTube capacity: free visitors share one pool, and people with a pack or lifetime membership have a separate pool of their own. When a pool runs out the site says so and asks you to try again later rather than failing halfway.
This YouTube MP3 converter works only with public videos. Private videos, members-only uploads, age-restricted videos, purchases and rentals, live streams while they are live, and anything protected by DRM are outside this tool. The site never asks for your Google account and does not sign in to YouTube on your behalf, so it cannot reach anything that needs a login.
Playlists, whole channels and batch lists are not supported. The service converts one video per request so that a single visitor cannot tie up the shared conversion capacity. If you regularly need many files, a desktop program may suit you better.
A public video is not automatically free to copy. Songs, film soundtracks and podcasts usually belong to someone, and YouTube’s terms limit downloading to cases YouTube allows. Use this page for your own uploads, for content the owner has licensed for reuse, or where you otherwise have permission. Converting a video to MP3 does not change who owns the sound.
On an iPhone or iPad, Safari puts downloads in the Files app under Downloads. Tap the file to play it, or use Share to open it in another app. MP3 files saved this way do not appear in Apple Music on their own; adding them to a music library is a separate step on a computer.
On Android, Chrome saves to the Downloads folder and shows a notification when the file is ready. Most music players pick up new MP3s from there automatically. On Windows and macOS the file goes to your browser’s download folder, usually Downloads, where any media player can open it.
The MP3 may arrive named after the video’s title. Characters that file systems don’t allow are replaced, and very long titles are shortened. Rename the file freely; the name does not affect playback.
The link isn’t recognized. Check that it is a single video address with watch?v=, youtu.be/ or /shorts/ followed by the video ID. A channel, a playlist on its own or a search page will not work. If a messaging app added text or punctuation around the link, paste only the address.
The video is found but there is no Save MP3 button. Some uploads have no sound track at all, such as silent screen recordings. Then the page says there is no MP3 for this video and offers the MP4 instead. Live streams and age-restricted videos are refused before that point with their own message.
The MP3 stops or fails while it is being prepared. Keep the page open until your browser starts the download. A failure before any data arrives is not counted against your downloads, so you can try again a little later. If the daily YouTube capacity for your account type has been used up, the message says so; waiting until the next day is the only fix.
The sound is quieter or flatter than expected. The MP3 follows the source. Compare it with the video playing on YouTube at the same volume; if the original sounds the same, the converter has kept what was there. Turning up the volume in the file will not restore detail the stream never had.
I can’t find the file. Open your browser’s downloads list first. On iPhone look in Files › Downloads, on Android in the Downloads folder, and on a computer in the folder your browser saves to.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What bitrate is the MP3?
- Every MP3 is encoded at 192 kbps. YouTube usually streams its sound as AAC at around 128 kbps, so 192 kbps keeps everything the source has without inventing quality that was never there.
- Does a YouTube MP3 count against my downloads?
- Yes, the same as a video. Without an account you get 3 downloads (1 a day), a free account adds 5 plus 1 free download every day, and download packs start at $2.99. Choosing the same video and format again within 15 minutes doesn't count twice.
- Can I convert a YouTube Short or a music video?
- Yes, if it is public. Paste the Short or video link and choose Save MP3. Music in a video can be licensed, though, so only keep sound you have the right to save.
- Why does the MP3 take a few seconds before it downloads?
- The sound is fetched and re-encoded on our server first, then your browser receives the finished file. A short clip takes seconds; an hour-long video takes longer.
- Can I convert a playlist to MP3?
- No. The tool takes one video at a time. Open the video you want from the playlist and paste its own link.
- Where does the MP3 go on my iPhone?
- Safari saves it to Files › Downloads. From there you can play it, share it or move it into another app.
